Armed Boko Haram terrorists have invaded Damasak, the Headquarter of Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno state after dislodging the Nigerian security forces.
Damasak a border town with Niger Republic is about 160km north from Maiduguri, the state capital which has suffered many attacks from terror groups.
Earlier, a United Nations Helicopter was shot at by terrorists in the axis.
Sources revealed that the insurgents stormed the town on Sunday evening in convoy of guntrucks loaded with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Rocket Propelled Grenades used to overwhelm troops at their Base before taking total control of the town, as hundreds of residents were trapped and others flee for safety.
This is even as communities of Khadamari village in Jere Local Government Area of the state had a sleepless night following Boko Haram invasion and clash to loot foodstuff and livestock.
Another unconfirmed reports indicated that scores of insurgents were neutralized, even as some security agencies civilians lost their lives in the Damasak encounter with scores missing.
These attacks came shortly after the Service Chiefs led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt General Lucky Irabor were in Maiduguri for a weeklong Operational tour to encourage troops fighting in the front lines of operations.
A reliable security reports earlier yesterday indicated that: “There is a signal that Boko Haram Terrorists are gaining control and maintaining presence in Damasak town after attack on the military formation stationed in the town.
“It is most likely they will target the United Nations (UN) humanitarian hub if they are not urgently checked by the military
“The incident may affect helicopter service to the town tomorrow.
“Please confirm status before you leave Maidugurii on Monday morning”.
Recall that the spiritual leader of the Boko Haram terror group, Abubakar Shekau had through an audio message recently, threatened more attacks.
Efforts to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edet Okon proved abortive at press time.
