Banky W, former co-founder of the defunct Empire Mates Entertainment(EME) has stated that Wizkid whom he signed on his label back then, is the fastest songwriter he has ever known.
Banky W made this known in a docuseries in celebration of Wizkid’s debut album “Superstar”.
In his words:” Wizkid for a long time in his life was not fortunate enough to be able to pay for studio time. He was a studio rat, so he would just go to any studio where they will let them hangout and he would hangout all day and pray for the end of the day so that the engineer or producer would just take pity on him and say ‘come and records for 15 minutes. Because obviously, he couldn’t pay for his sessions. All-day long, he would be working on hooks and melodies so that he could jump on them whenever he is given an opportunity. This has helped him in songwriting. He is one of the fastest songwriters that I have ever encountered in my life”.
Ace comedian, Alibaba also added that WIzkid did not forget his roots.
“Wizkid was not taken away from his reality, his roots. He grew up in Ojuelegba area. He owned it. It’s not like he started growing and felt like, let me belong to V.I or let me belong to any other place. Even if he lived in any other place, he still did not disconnect from his root.It showed in his songs”.
Wizkid snagged his first-ever Grammy award last March for his role in ‘Brown Skin Girl’, a song by Beyonce.
