The suspension followed the derailment of the train at Kubwa in Abuja, on Friday.

Though the reasons for the derailment are unknown, an official of the NRC who spoke in confidence, confirmed the incident.

He said: “It is true that the train derailed today (Friday), but the good news is that it didn’t happen in the middle of the forest like the Warri-Itakpe train.

“This one happened in Kubwa, which reduced the level of panic amongst the passengers.

“Currently, train cannot pass because of the derailment. So, train service has been suspended for now but if our men can work overnight, then we might resume service tomorrow (Saturday).”

The train service along the corridor resumed operation on December 5, 2022, after it was suspended for over eight months due to terrorists’ attack on the tracks on March 28, 2022.

During the attack, no fewer than eight persons were killed by the terrorists, several injured and over 60 others kidnapped.

The train operations eventually resumed in December after those who were kidnapped regained their freedom.
