A devastating incident occurred in the Papa Ajao area of Mushin, Lagos, on Sunday afternoon when a mosque collapsed during the Zuhr prayer, resulting in an unknown number of casualties and injuries.

Eyewitnesses report that many worshippers are feared dead, and several others are trapped under the rubble.
Videos posted on X by one Oyindamola show the recovery of bodies from the collapsed building, but the exact number of fatalities is yet to be confirmed.

This tragic event is the latest in a string of building collapses in  Lagos State, which has become an all-too-common occurrence. According to the Building Collapse Prevention Guild (BCPG), Lagos State recorded 20 building collapse incidents in 2022, the highest in the country. The cause of the mosque collapse is yet to be determined, and no official statement has been issued by relevant authorities. Rescue efforts are ongoing, and the situation is being closely monitored.
