She crossed the road barefoot as the searing heat of the previous days was again building up. As she advanced towards the rousing market, evading messy spots and skipping puddles, the small wrapped nylon remained steady on her head. There were enough forlorn faces around her that also appeared unsure of what the day held, but she knew there was no home to go to if expectant family members had nothing on the table by night.
