A 43-year-old pastor, Paul Oyewole, has been arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo Town, Ondo State, for allegedly posting his obituary on WhatsApp to avoid repaying a N3million debt owed a member of his Church.
Oyewole was arraigned before the court on Wednesday for fraudulently obtaining N3 million from one Boyede Emmanuel with the promise to pay back the money within seven days.
The police prosecutor, Akao Moremi, told the court that the defendant, after he failed to pay back the money, falsely published his obituary on WhatsApp.
The prosecutor disclosed that the defendant also sent a fake bank alert to Emmanuel.
Moremi added that the pastor “threatened the complainant on phone, with the intent to intimidate him and also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace, by stripping himself in front of the house of the complainant.”
The cleric, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, was granted N1million bail with two sureties in like sum.
