Ondo APC, PDP Exchange Words As Supporters Clash Again | TimeTestedNews

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress and its Peoples Democratic Party counterpart, engaged in a war of words in Akure on Sunday after their supporters engaged each other in a fight.

The violence, which started on Saturday, spilled over to Sunday leaving several party supporters on both sides severely injured.

Eyewitnesses said the clash occurred a few meters away from ‘A’ Division Police Station, Akure.

It was gathered that pandemonium broke out in Oba Nla, Oba Adesida Road, Arakale and Oja Oba areas of Akure, as supporters of the two political parties exchanged blows and gunfire.

However, no life was lost during the clash.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, said, “It (clash) started yesterday (Saturday), but our men quickly dislodged them and it happened today (Sunday) again. So, we quickly moved in. I want to tell you that normalcy has returned to the area now.”

Giving an account of what transpired, spokesman for the Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation, Mr Richard Olatunde, said, “This latest recourse to attack and wanton violence by the PDP is the height of insensitivity, irresponsibility and indecency.

“It is obviously provocative. The thugs launched attacks on anyone seen with APC branded items like clothes and caps, as well as taxi drivers with Akeredolu stickers on their vehicles at Obanle in Akure last night.

“The violence continued into the morning on Sunday, with many beaten and clubbed for supporting the APC.”

On his part, the Head, Media and Research, Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organisation, Mr Samuel Fasua, said, “Their political thugs from Kogi State and those under the control of a drivers’ union have been spread all over the state.

“Their mandate, we gathered, is to attack PDP members wherever and whenever gathered. Again, they had the marching order to hack down PDP members wearing caps with the party’s logo or saying anything in favour of the party.”
