Glo Dusts Other Networks In Data Subscribers’ Growth -TimeTestedNews

Mobile network giant – Globacom – has sent its competitors to the performance back seat, according to a recent report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The said report documents what it called “subscriber patronage” over a period.

Released in May this year, the report shows that Glo dusted other competitors, gaining 8.302 million data subscribers.

Glo grew from 28.934 million in December 2019 to 37.236 million by the end of May 2020, while MTN gained 4.75 million data subscribers.

Airtel, hitherto the second-highest in subscribers growth after MTN, recorded 2.795 million, while 9Mobile lost 812,827 subscribers within the same period.

There have been a new twist from January to May 2020 as Glo overtakes MTN and Airtel, who used to be the two Nigeria’s largest data sellers.

Glo, arguably the third-largest, came from behind to outrun the ‘big players’, as more subscribers ‘migrated’.

The implication is that while MTN attracted only 689,593 and 41,791 subscribers in March and April (Peak of the Coronavirus lockdown) respectively, Glo attracted new 2.072 million data subscribers within the same period.
