First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced the appointment of Mr Gbenga Shobo as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer designate of the bank.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the chairman of the bank, Mrs Ibukun Awosika, prior to his appointment, Shobo was the deputy managing director of the bank.

His appointment is subject to regulatory approval as he succeeds Sola Adedutan.

“The board is confident that Shobo has the experience and understanding of the bank and the know-how to lead the bank through this next phase of growth, which is focused on positioning First Bank as the preeminent bank in our chosen markets, delivering value to our stakeholders,” Awosika said.

She also appreciated Adeduntan for his dedication and efforts during his leadership at the bank, and before as chief finance officer.

The Chairman said, “The board and I are grateful for his leadership of the bank over the last five years and a half and believe that the strong foundation created during his term would provide an excellent basis for our continued success.

“We wish him well in his future endeavours outside the FirstBank Group.”

Also appointed was Abdullahi Ibrahim as deputy managing director, while Mr Ini Ebong, Mr Segun Alebiosu, Mr Seyi Oyefeso and Mrs Bashirat Odunewu, were appointed as executive directors.
