The Ebonyi State Chapter of the Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), with the South East Zone Vice-President, Prof Ifeyinwa Nsude as anchor, flagged-off the ACSPN activity year, with a collaboration with the Ebonyi State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), on September 28. The one-day Workshop on “Reporting Women Economic Empowerment and Information Management in Nation Building”, was the first activity of ACSPN nationally since the 10th Annual Conference in Abuja from September 6-7.

Guest lecturers included the Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Mrs.  Augustina Ogbodo, who spoke on “Safety Tips in Journalism”; Vice President ACSPN South East and Coordinator of Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Abakaliki, Professor Ifeyinwa Nsude who gave a talk on “Reporting Women Economic Empowerment”, and Head, Department of Mass Communication, EBSU, Dr. Agatha Orji-Egwu, whose presentation was on “Information Management in Nation Building”.

The chief host and chairperson, Ebonyi State Chapter of NAWOJ, Nkechinyere Oginyi, while welcoming the guests, promised that the collaboration with ACSPN would be sustained, and acknowledged its uniqueness.

The workshop featured the State Chairman. Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Chief Ogodoali Nomeh, as Guest of Honour, while the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Engineer Jude Okpor, was chairman.

Other notables at the event were the chairman, Ebonyi State Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr. Sampson Nworie; former state NUJ chairperson, Mrs. Veronica Osim; ACSPN Secretary, Ebonyi State, Dr. Joseph Chukwu, Secretary, Ebonyi State Chapter, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Adeola Oyeleke; other ACSPN members in the state, including Dr Chioma, Ijeoma Taiwo, Department of Mass Communication, Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Dr Wealth Udoh, Abigail Ihukwumere and Fortunate Ozo of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Abakaliki, and Mrs Juliana Okoro (Ada Echiele) of Unity FM.

The planning committee for the workshop was chaired by Amarachukwu Egwu-Agha, who appreciated the invited guests and participants for attending in their numbers at the Dr Sam Egwu NUJ Press Centre, Abakaliki venue.
