Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes Indonesia

An earthquake of magnitude 5.5 struck the northern coast of Papua province of Indonesia on February 9 (today).

According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake’s epicentre was at a depth of 10 km.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency estimated the earthquake to have a magnitude of 5.4, struck at about 1:28 pm (local time), with the epicentre at a depth of 10 km, 1 km away to the southwest of Jayapura, the capital city of Papua province.

The quake did not trigger any tsunami warnings.
