STAFF of the National Assembly under the aegis of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) have suspended their industrial action.
Chairman of the Association Sunday Sabiyi announced the suspension of the strike on Tuesday while addressing the striking workers at the entrance of the National Assembly.
Sabiyi noted that the strike is being suspended based on some agreements reached with the leadership of the Senate.
The workers, however, threatened to resume the strike action if the agreements were not honoured by the end of July.
Members of PASAN had embarked on an indefinite strike to protest against the non-implementation of certain conditions of service.
According to a report, the association had in 2020 written to the Senate President Ahmed Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila over their grievances, but the move did not yield desired results.
A few days ago, Lawan urged the striking workers to call off the strike during a meeting between the association and the management of the National Assembly.
He noted that rather than continue with the industrial action, dialogue should be considered as a means of resolving differences.
“I want to urge you, whenever we disagree, let’s try to come and sit and talk about it because when we talk, we are able to find some common grounds and solutions. I am very happy that we have been able to deal with this,” he said.
The Senate President had assured the striking workers that their grievances would be addressed.
