Watford talisman Emmanuel Dennis could be heading to Cameroon next month for the Africa Cup of Nations, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.

It is confirmed that Dennis has been named in Nigeria’s provisional squad for the tournament that kicks off in Cameroon on January 9, 2022.

Ahead of the tournament, interim Nigeria boss Augustine Eguavoen will also make a decision on another fringe Super Eagles player in former Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who has also been named in the provisional squad list set to be announced by the Nigerian Federation in the coming days.

For the sake of clarity, Dennis and Awoniyi being named in Nigeria’s expanded squad is not to act as cover for the two attackers who are recovering from injuries Victor Osimhen and Paul Onuachu as their names were forwarded to CAF since November.

A training camp will be held in Nigeria to prune down the list of invitees to a maximum of twenty-eight players.

Dennis found his opportunities limited under former coach Gernot Rohr and has not suited up for the Super Eagles since playing the last six minutes of a goalless draw against Sierra Leone on November 17, 2020.

2013 U17 World Cup winner Awoniyi finally made his senior debut in a World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic in October after such a long wait.
