Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday, suspended the Provost, College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ijero-Ekiti, Dr Cecilia Adebayo, following a controversial fumigation in the school, which led to hospitalisation of over 100 students.
The governor said the suspension was pending the outcome of investigation into the exercise.
Fayemi also directed that the affected students’ medical bills be taken over by the state government.
He constituted an eight-member panel headed by the commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, to investigate the incidence and report back to him in two weeks.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yinka Oyebode, titled: ‘EKSG suspends CHST provost as state launches investigation into controversial exercise that landed over 100 students in hospital’, listed the names of other members of the panel as the Commissioner for Education, Dr Olabimpe Aderiye; and her Environment counterpart, Princess Iyabo Fakunle-Okhiemen.
Others are the Director General, Office of Transformation and Service Delivery, Prof. Bolaji Aluko; Director, State Fire Services, Mr Samuel Omoniyi; Prof. Isola Olomola; Mrs Dupe Ogundipe; and the Director, Special Duties, Cabinet Office, Mr Isaac Okeowo, who will serve as Secretary to the panel.
